Fall protection that combines workplace safety and efficiency
Fall protection that combines safety and efficiency when working at heights
How do you keep your employees safe when working at heights – without making everyday work more complicated?
It’s a question many companies ask themselves. And while choosing the right equipment is important, it’s rarely the whole solution. Often, a broader perspective is required.
Efficiency and safety don’t have to be opposites – not even when the work takes place at height.
The challenge is well known: How do you protect employees optimally without unnecessarily complicating daily work? The answer lies not only in the equipment itself but in understanding the specific conditions under which the job must be performed. Only when you have the full picture can you find a solution that is both safe and practical in everyday use.
At ccbsafety, we believe that fall protection should be tailored to each individual task and work environment. Every solution begins with a thorough understanding of the workplace, movement patterns, and specific risks. We believe that efficient workflows require safety solutions that fit the job and are used correctly – voluntarily and naturally.
Too often we see standard equipment that doesn’t suit the work situation or restricts freedom of movement. Fall arrest blocks that are too heavy. Harnesses that don’t fit properly. Anchor points that are placed incorrectly. The result is lower productivity – and higher risk.
That’s why we recommend that the selection and use of fall protection equipment be carefully thought through, so the work can be carried out safely without the equipment feeling intrusive. It’s crucial that fall protection gear is used from the very start of the job and applied correctly throughout the entire process. The right equipment, used properly, significantly increases safety and ensures you are best prepared should an accident occur.
That’s why our collaboration always begins with dialogue and guidance – long before the equipment is chosen.
- What is the actual work environment?
- What movements does the task require?
- How do we ensure that personal protective equipment is used – and used correctly?
What you should know about fall protection
Workplace accidents caused by falls are among the most dangerous and most fatal in the Danish labour market. According to the Danish Working Environment Authority, 6,880 cases of injury involving vertical movement – including falls – were reported in Denmark in 2024. This underlines the importance of making fall protection a natural and planned part of working at heights.
When working at height, it is crucial to have the right safety measures in place to prevent fall accidents. These may include the use of scaffolding, guardrails, lifts – or personal fall protection equipment when other solutions are not possible or practical.
Personal protective equipment should only be used for short-term tasks where the work cannot be carried out safely in any other way. Broadly speaking, there are three main types of fall protection:
- To prevent people from falling
- To secure the working position so that a fall is limited
- To arrest people who have fallen
At ccbsafety, we recommend that fall protection equipment is selected and used with care – and preferably with guidance from experts. This is how we can best create safe and efficient working conditions at height.
Select the right equipment for the task
When working at height, it is crucial to choose the fall protection equipment that fits the specific task and the environment in which the work is carried out.
Incorrect or improperly used equipment increases the risk of accidents – and can also make the working day more difficult.
That is why the choice of fall protection should always be based on a concrete assessment of the work situation.
Here are the key components and how to use them correctly:
- Harness
A properly fitted harness is the foundation of safety at height. It must fit snugly to the body and distribute the load evenly in the event of a fall. Attachment points are clearly marked and must be used correctly. - Shock-absorbing lanyards
Shock absorbers reduce the force generated during a fall. They can be built into a lanyard or a self-retracting lifeline. It is important to remember that two shock-absorbing devices must never be combined. - Self-retracting lifeline (SRL)
An SRL keeps the line taut during work and limits the length of a fall. It is most effective when positioned above the user, and it must always be checked whether it is approved for vertical and/or horizontal use. - Anchor point
Always use CE-marked and approved anchor points that have been tested to withstand high loads. To avoid a pendulum effect, the anchor point should be placed above head height and no more than 15 degrees from the work area. - Connectors / carabiners
Carabiners must be self-closing and lockable to ensure a stable and secure connection between equipment components. - Work positioning belt
Typically used when working in a lift or stationary positions where there is no risk of free fall. Work positioning belts must not be used together with shock-absorbing equipment. - Work positioning lanyard / pole strap / positioning line
This lanyard connects the harness or work belt to the rest of the fall protection system. It is primarily used for positioning at height or as a safeguard against approaching hazardous edges. The lanyard must always be kept taut during work and must not come into contact with sharp edges. Often referred to as “the third hand.” Note that positioning lanyards generally do not have shock-absorbing properties. - Helmets
Helmets protect the head from impacts and falling objects and are an important supplement to fall protection equipment. A helmet with a chin strap should always be chosen to prevent it from falling off, losing its protective effect, or becoming a hazard to colleagues if it drops. - Ropes and lines
Approved ropes and lines connect the equipment and must be of high quality to ensure maximum durability and safety. - Power ascenders
Motorised devices assist with rope climbing and positioning by providing mechanical assistance, making work at difficult heights more efficient and less physically demanding. - Descent equipment
Used for controlled descent and evacuation from height. It ensures a safe, stable, and controlled lowering of people or loads, typically during rescue, evacuation, or height work. - Rescue equipment
Ensures quick and safe evacuation of people, both upwards and downwards, in emergency situations. - Permanent wire systems
Permanently installed wires that provide continuous anchorage when working at height. - Confined spaces
Confined spaces are enclosed, restricted areas with limited access, where specialised safety equipment is often required – such as Skylotec’s fall protection and rescue systems – to ensure safe and efficient work in challenging conditions.
By selecting the right equipment for the specific task, you not only increase safety and efficiency – you also create better working conditions for employees working at height.

Fall protection for all industries
Fall protection equipment is relevant in many industries where work is performed at height or involves a risk of falling. This includes, among others, the construction and civil engineering sector, industry, warehousing and logistics, the energy sector, and not least offshore, where safety standards are often particularly high.
The needs vary from industry to industry. In construction, personal fall protection systems and temporary solutions are typically used, while offshore tasks often require advanced and fixed installations approved for extreme conditions. In industry and warehouses, there may be a need for access equipment, self-retracting lifelines, or fixed anchor points for maintenance work.
Equipment must be selected based on the task, height level, environment, and regulatory requirements. Additionally, correct use and regular inspection are crucial to ensure the desired protection. Many choose to supplement with training and education to ensure proper practical use.
